Samsung is looking to integrate a notch into a future smartphone, patent suggests

According to the leaked patent application files from China, first spotted by, Samsung may embrace the popular notch on its Galaxy smartphone lineup. Just like the iPhone X, the notch on the Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones is likely to house the earpiece, camera, and other sensors.

Just like the latest Galaxy S9, the display on the smartphone will also curve gradually at the edges. The patent shows very thin bezel on the bottom chin, also no fingerprint sensor on the front/back, which directly means the company could finally be employing on-display fingerprint scanner, along with facial recognition system for improved security.

According to the patent, the schematics hint at major design makeover at the back of smartphone. The dual camera modules seem to be pushed to the edges, and placed horizontally.

Lastly, Samsung decided to stay with regular headphone jack.Hey, one more thing – no Bixby button. However, there is no clarity on whether we would see the display notch on the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S10 (Galaxy X) or Galaxy Note 9.
