Samsung to introduce new notebook with Intel’s ‘Optimum Memory’ module in August

Today, Samsung announced that it will launch a new Notebook computer equipped with Intel’s hyper-fast ‘Optane memory’ memory module in August.

Optane(Optimum) is Intel’s trademarked term for a new class of extremely fast memory modules, which increases reading speed of hard disk drive(HDD) by serving as a cache that’s capable of storing and utilizing often-used data.

The HDD is cheaper than SSD (solid state drive) and has a large capacity up to 10TB of HDD. In addition, when the optional memory is applied, large-capacity media work stored in the HDD can work up to 4.1 times faster than now and is useful not only to general users but also to experts.

Samsung Notebook 5 has a Windows 10 operating system, the latest 8th generation Intel processor, a 39.6 cm Full HD (1920 x 1080) wide viewing angle display, a full-size keyboard and an NVIDIA MX110 graphics card.

Samsung Notebook 5, in close cooperation with Intel, is equipped with Intel Optimum memory, which improves user convenience by dramatically improving the speed of the HDD,” said Lee Min-Cheol, vice president of Samsung’s PC business team. We will continue to work hard, “he said.

The Samsung Notebook 5, will be unveiled in South Korea and China at the end of August, will have a base 8GB DDR4 memory module and be additionally equipped with Intel’s 16GB Optane memory module.
