According to YonhapNews, Samsung Display has announced that it has succeeded in developing a 15.6-inch UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) OLED panel with HDR support, which counted as the world’s first UHD display for the notebook/laptop market and the mass production will begin in mid-February.
Samsung Display said the displays have a high resolution, low blue light, and a wide viewing angle, allowing it to tackle the premium segment. Also, the OLED panels are thinner and more energy efficient than their LCD products, although they can be about $50-60 higher more expensive in comparison of the LCD panel.
In 2019, market observers expecting a growing demand for laptops with UHD OLED panels. As for this display is initially for use in premium notebooks produced by leading manufacturers and will provide ultra-high resolution optimized for gaming, graphic design and video streaming.
