Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced today that it has developed a 5x optical zoom camera module (via ETNews). The company also announced it has begun mass-producing a 5X optical zoom camera module.
Samsung has produced a module which is 5mm thick. While the 2X zoom module is 6mm thick. According to the report, the South Korean company uses a periscope method to refract the light at right angles and horizontally arrange sensors and lenses.
We could see the 5x zoom module in the upcoming Galaxy Note 10. According to the rumors, the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 could feature a quad rear camera setup in a vertical arrangement.
We have recently seen the same kind of setup in the Galaxy A9, the first phone with the quad rear camera setup. It’ll be interesting to see the 5X camera zoom on the Galaxy Note 10.
