“The Note9 is compatible with your existing Gear VR, but a new Type-C adapter is required,” Samsung said in its troubleshooting guide. “Current owners of the Gear VR with Controller (model SM-R325) can obtain the new adapter at no cost by contacting 1-800-Samsung.”
How to get a free adapter:
If you head to the Samsung’s website in Gear VR’s listing page, you will see a message that states that the headset is “compatible with Galaxy S9 Plus, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8 and more.”
Samsung does not notify customers that the headset isn’t initially compatible with the new Note 9 until you scroll down the page.
“The current iteration of Gear VR (SM-R325NZVAXAR) will be supported by the Galaxy Note9, however you will need an adapter to fit it. If you are a Galaxy Note9 owner and would like to receive the adapter free of charge, please call 1-800-SAMSUNG*”
The other method is to use the Samsung+ app to get in touch with a representative who can also process the order.
After contacting Samsung support, you will need to give the Gear VR model and serial number located on the side of the headset.
After that, the company will ship the free adapter to you, but it could take up to 10 working days for it to arrive. At this time, you can not get the adapter in stores.
