Samsung devices are packed with many useful features but the most important and eye-catching thing is its 'Display', and the company recently spoke how the display is a crucial element in the smartphone advancement.
Hark-sang Kim, Senior Vice President, Head of Visual R&D Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, said with the next industry revolution of 5G, AI and AR technology, users will need more than just a smartphone. Where a larger display will become a key to expand the experiences of these technologies even further.
While talking about display technology, Kim said at SDC 2018, Samsung introduced the first ever foldable Display as 'Infinity Flex', which will decide a new direction for the company. The official also mentioned the potential of Rollable and Stretchable displays.
"After the prototypes of the flexible display debuted at CES in 2011, it took another seven years to perfect the technology and deliver a truly meaningful experience to users." said the official.
"From developing new materials to overcoming mechanical challenges, the foldable screen demanded a total reconfiguration of the smartphone from inside out," he added.
Kim said that the company has created a natural and durable folding experience for the users, with a redesigned structure for battery cooling system and camera that can be packed inside the slim body of the actual device.
Samsung has developed a new User Experience (UX) to ensure apps can transition seamlessly between the smaller and larger displays. he noted.
During the SDC 18, a prototype of the foldable phone was demoed to show how the device actually works, which features dual-screen that looks like a standard smartphone when folded it is a modest 4.58-inch OLED touchscreen display phone, while unfolded it becomes a 7.3-inch tablet.
As a Foldable Phone with Infinity Flex display is expected to be unveiled alongside Galaxy S10 at the Unpacked Event scheduled for February 20, 2019, in San Francisco.
